Methods of Investment Continue to Diversify for Foreign Investors

August 15, 2006

The Investment Commission on July 31 announced that overseas Chinese and foreign businesses would now be allowed to make an investment as New Taiwan Dollar secured financing at a Taiwan banking institute.

Previously, overseas Chinese and foreign investors were only able to invest via foreign exchange or with NT dollars earned while in Taiwan - secured financing at a Taiwan bank was not an option. The Investment Commission is expecting that the diversification of investment channels will make it easier for foreign concerns to make an investment in Taiwan, facilitating the influx of overseas capital.

The Investment Commission noted that when applying for investment as secured financing at a Taiwan banking institute, overseas Chinese and foreign parties should include an audit report, an investment plan, and a draft of the financing agreement. If you are a qualified foreign institutional investor, in addition to the above you will need to submit a declaration stating your business is operating legally or is a multinational corporation.
